Nativity Beer Run 2025
Gomshall Station to Guildford – Saturday 6th December
Please check back closer to the date in case there are any changes.
This year’s nativity run will be an A-to-B hash from Gomshall Station back into Guildford. This means you need to carry everything you want for the day with you. The route will be ~10 miles and take in a handful of pubs. Expect to finish in the dark, so bring a torch. As ever, fancy dress is encouraged, with the theme being ‘last kid picked for the school play’. So grab your dressing gown and a tea towel.
This event is also welcome to all non hashers / walkers/ runners.
A Google Map of the route is available here. The main route is also available on Strava and OS Maps. A zip file containing the GPX route is here and a map is available here (pdf).
The day will attempt to follow something along the lines of the format below. Note that whilst this might be the planned route, the MM have no control over what the trail actually resembles after it has been laid the day before during the Chumbawamba. As such, the timings here are all guesstimates/wishful thinking. (Knowing the Hash, this will go awry after the first pub stop anyway. – CG)
- Make your own way to The Compasses, Gomshall for the first drink of the day if you fancy it
- You can either arrive on 09:52 train (leaves Guildford 09:37) in time for breakfast at the pub, or on 11:00 train (leaves Guildford 10:08, but you’ll need to change at Dorking first and then return to Gomshall)
- ~11:40 – circle up outside the Compasses ready for the On Out to Shere
- The #32 bus leaves Guildford @ 10:30, and stops at the Compasses @ 10:56
- 12:20 – White Horse, Shere
- There is a short cut to Shere, which avoids both railway crossings, for walkers who can read the map or who are familiar with the trails around Shere. Alternatively, there is an obvious short cut from the railway crossing at Shere Heath direct to The William IV, Little London (bypassing Shere), if desired.
- 13:20 –William IV, Little London.
- 14:30 – Wally’s favourite, the Drummond Arms in Albury
- 15:40 – Percy Arms, Chilworth – bail out point #1
- 17:00 – Seahorse, Shalford
- 17:55 – Queen Victoria, Shalford – bail out point #2
- Hash Cash may delve into the coffers here
- The route then goes back to Dagley Lane and down the steep hill that leads towards the river and St Catherine’s Lock. (NOT along the main road to the Yvonne Arnaud theatre, SDHN!)
- ~19:00 – Finish at Ye Olde Ship Inn, Portsmouth Road, Guildford
